Classroom Program

The Bright Beginnings
classroom program serves children ages three through five (not yet
Kindergarten age eligible). Children access the program through
eligibility.
v
Pre-Kindergarten eligibility
– Children demonstrate a need for a structured, language-based preschool
prior to Kindergarten based on screening results and/or family or
environmental needs.
v
Early Childhood eligibility
– Children have special education needs that are best met in a classroom
environment. They receive support and specialized instruction at school.
An Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is developed by a team.
v
Bright Beginnings is a
blended program, where all children are included in the same sessions.
Some children receive more help or differing instruction, based on needs.
v
Class meets five half-days
per week and follow the local district calendar.
v
Curriculum is guided by the
Illinois Early Learning Standards. Classrooms use the McGraw Hill
preschool math curriculum, Scholastic Reading Line literacy curriculum,
the Creative Curriculum. Some classrooms supplement with social skills
and nutrition curriculum, as well.
v
The environment and
activities foster language, socialization, fine/gross motor, self-help,
pre-academic, and cognitive skills.
v
IEP’s are aligned with the
Illinois Early Learning Standards.
Play
Groups
v
These hour and a half
sessions are planned for parents and their children, infants through five.
v
Groups meet weekly in four
Woodford County locations.
v
Morning and afternoon groups
v
Interactive sessions are led
by a facilitator and include movement, music, hands on activities, and
information on child development.

Guest presenters and
speakers
v
A great first social
opportunity for children. A great opportunity for parents to get to know
each other.

Certified Parents As Teachers Program
v
A Family Resource Specialist provides in home activities for parents of
young children, ages birth through five.
v
Program emphasizes child development, encouraging parents to learn more in
their role as their child’s first and most important teacher.
v
Available to families who meet eligibility criteria including a commitment
to participate monthly.
Additional Birth To Five Programs/Services
v
Developmental screenings – offered for infants through age five throughout
the school year in local communities. Learn more about your child’s skills
in areas including: speech/language, motor, self-help/socialization, and
cognition. Screenings are required to consider eligibility for the
classroom program.
v
Family Workshops – offered in many locations throughout the county. Day
and evening sessions offered. Topics include behavior management, toilet
learning, separation anxiety, computers, car seat safety, budgeting, and
more.
v
Classes for Kids – special short-term classes in the areas of cooking,
motor skills, computers. Parents attend with their child.
v
Monthly newsletter – mailed to your home. Contains articles related to
parenting and child development. Upcoming events (screenings, parent
classes) are also highlighted as well as ideas and snacks for home.
v
Book Lending Library – located at the WCSEA office and through home
visiting program. Parents can check out children’s books, videos, or
parenting resources
Parent
involvement is one of strongest predictors of school success. We highly
encourage parents to become acquainted with the school district, volunteer
in the classroom, and/or and spend quality time with your child at one of
our activities planned with you in mind!
